Why did you choose WLC?

I chose Wisconsin Lutheran College because I wanted to become a teacher, and having graduated from Wisconsin Lutheran High School, I knew of a great college very close to home! I knew that I would be able to stay connected to my Savior and to my family and friends while learning to do my dream job.

Alyssa and Joel with Dr. NowackTell us about your favorite WLC experience.

My favorite WLC experience was going on a European choir tour with the Wisconsin Lutheran Choir. I often find myself reflecting on that time and wishing that I would have treasured every moment even more thoroughly. Getting to experience the breadth and the beauty of God’s creation while on that tour is something I’ll always cherish.

What have you accomplished on your bucket list since graduation?

One of my most relentless prayers has been to be able to raise a Christian family. I get to do it, and I feel really grateful.

What goal are you working toward right now?

Right now my goal is twofold: I want my kids to sleep through the night so I can enjoy a full night’s rest myself.

What is one thing most people don't know about you?

Most people don’t know that I can do a cartwheel. That tends to surprise second graders and also people my own age.

What was your first job?

I cleaned carpets. I worked for a company owned by a member of my home congregation in Menomonee Falls.

What is something valuable you learned during your career?

The most valuable thing I have learned, and continue to learn, is to listen humbly. You must hear others first in order to understand them more fully and to let Christ lead.

“My husband, Joel, and I met at WLC. I’m so happy about that! I want everyone to go find their 'Joel' too. More seriously, however, our families supported us along the entire journey of our education in many ways. Years later, as parents and as working, saving, spending people, we now have a better grasp on two things: the self-sacrifice that parents and guardians make to prioritize Christian education and the motivation that leads parents to make that kind of sacrifice. We talk about WLC with such love and thankfulness. I hope that like so many before us, we can prayerfully see and act on opportunities to support this special place.”
