Music Major

Explore the artistry and science of this sacred and ancient communication tool as you hone your talents as a music major. You’ll learn how to develop your perception to strengthen your musicianship, examine the history of music, and experience the joy of performing.

Build your music making skills through:

  • Private lessons
  • Master classes
  • Recitals
  • Vocal and instrumental performing groups
Hone your talents alongside some of Milwaukee's most esteemed musicians

You'll learn from music faculty who are dedicated to their craft and renowned in their areas of expertise. They are talented, passionate, and renowned for their love of the arts, their professional experience, and their body of work. At larger schools, students rarely interact directly with their professors. At WLC, you’ll grow alongside faculty who’ll work one-on-one with you to identify your interests and further your talents.

In addition to our outstanding faculty, we have an incredible staff of music adjuncts, including musicians from the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra!

Perform in an esteemed concert hall

You’ll take classes in WLC’s Center for Arts and Performance, which features a 370-seat concert hall, practice rooms, rehearsal hall, multimedia lecture hall, and an electronic music lab.

Experience an education that helps keep your mind and spirit in harmony.

As a graduate of WLC’s music program, you’ll be ready to bring your passion for music to others through music ministry, education, or continuing to graduate studies.

Consider a rewarding career as a music educator

Within our music major, students may select an emphasis in music education.

Music can be awe-inspiring and transformational for a child, and teaching music to children is a rewarding career.

Our music education track is designed to give you the teaching preparation and music background necessary to be an exceptional educator, director, and performer. You’ll learn from some of the finest music educators in the region, while engaging in small class sizes with faculty determined to motivate you. Our education graduates enjoy a 100% placement rate and are employed by public, private, and charter schools.

We enable you to activate your greatest potential, and theirs.

You’ll graduate with your Wisconsin K-12 Music Education license, allowing you to teach band, orchestra, choir, or general music in public schools throughout Wisconsin.

Showcase your talents in a musical ensemble

Develop your talents and enjoy the enriching, broadening experience of music performance, both individually and as part of a group. All students are welcome to audition or join our musical ensembles, regardless of their chosen major.
