Fall Showcase Concert features Band and Choirs

MILWAUKEE – The Wisconsin Lutheran College Concert Band and Wisconsin Lutheran Choir and Chamber Choir will present their first performances of the 2013-2014 season at the Fall Showcase Concert on Friday and Saturday, October 4 and 5, 2013, at 7:30 p.m. in the Schwan Concert Hall.
The Wisconsin Lutheran College Concert Band, under the direction of Professor Terry Treuden, will perform a number of exciting works. The concert launches with the short but spectacular Firework by Jan Van der Roost. Shadow Rituals by Michael Markowski is a rhythmic and energetic composition. The band's portion of the program concludes with Paul Hindemith's March (from Symphonic Metamorphosis of Themes by Carl Maria von Weber).
The Wisconsin Lutheran Choir and Chamber Choir, led by Dr. James Nowack, will perform contrasting works from sacred and secular traditions. Shakespeare texts set by Benjamin Britten, Ralph Vaughan Williams, and George Shearing round out the Chamber Choir's eclectic set of partsongs. Sacred literature performed by the Wisconsin Lutheran Choir includes Palestrina's Renaissance masterwork Exultate Deo and Rihards Dubra's mesmerizing motet, Oculus non vidit. Also featured are works by contemporary composers and arrangers Matthew Culloton, Rosephanye Powell, and Moses Hogan.
The Schwan Concert Hall is located in the Center for Arts and Performance, 8815 West Wisconsin Avenue. Tickets are $7 for adults and $4 for students. They may be purchased through the box office at 414.443.8802 or at wlc.edu/arts.
