Choose the WLC Spanish program.
A liberal arts major or minor in Spanish greatly enhances career preparation in a wide variety of fields. Spanish is a valuable support tool in education, administration, all the health and social service fields, business, banking, and especially in service and product sales and marketing.
A teaching major in Spanish provides the essential skills and knowledge to satisfy the requirements of the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction for a license to teach Spanish.
Spanish at Wisconsin Lutheran and beyond
Our students are allowed to choose where they would like to study abroad. In the recent past, students have gone to Costa Rica, Guatemala, Spain (Sevilla, Barcelona, and Malaga), and Peru (Quito and Lima). Each country offers unique study and travel opportunities, and several of our majors have written their senior thesis based on experiences in their host country. Although students who minor in Spanish are not required to study abroad, we encourage all of our students to spend a summer or a semester in a Spanish-speaking country because daily exposure to the language and culture during an extended stay is invaluable in terms of improving a student's speaking ability and confidence. In addition there are many opportunities in Milwaukee for working with Hispanics, especially with southside ministries and with the ESL program at Gethsemane. There are also job opportunities for majors/minors in the Language Lab and as Spanish tutors.
