Art Scholarship Information

The art scholarship consists of $1,000 given each year for an equivalent value of $4,000 over four years. Four art scholarships will be awarded each year. These scholarships may be given in addition to other academic scholarships that the college offers. However, recipients may receive only one Fine Arts Scholarship.

Scholarship application deadline is FEBRUARY 10, 2014. All scholarships are renewable annually provided the student fulfills the following:

  1. Maintains a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.50.

  2. Must be enrolled in at least one art course each semester of the year the scholarship is awarded.

  3. Has satisfactorily participated in the activities of the art department.

  4. Models an example of Christian character and leadership.

Instructions

  1. Please fill out the application form (pdf) and save it to your hard drive, then print it out.

  2. Download CD/DVD portfolio template to submit a digital portfolio (.ppt, 1 MB).

  3. Submit the application, along with your portfolio, to the address listed below by FEBRUARY 10, 2014, either by mail or in person:

  4. You also must print and distribute the Letter of Reference (pdf) to your two references.

Eligibility and Selection

  1. Scholarship applicants must be accepted for admission prior to portfolio review.

  2. Scholarship selection is based on artistic dedication and ability as determined by the application form and portfolio review (see guidelines below) in conjunction with two written letters of recommendation.

  3. Scholarships are awarded to incoming freshmen or transfer students entering in the fall semester.

  4. Students need not be art majors to receive these awards.

Portfolio Guidelines

  1. Portfolio must contain a minimum of five works of art, but not more than 10.

  2. Artwork in the following media will be accepted: painting, drawing, sculpture, ceramics, small metals, printmaking, photography, fibers, mixed media, computer graphics, and video.

  3. Each piece in portfolio must be identified by title, scale (size), and materials used.

  4. You are encouraged to submit a digital portfolio on CD, though original artwork, good quality slides,  and color photos of artwork will be accepted. Visit wlc.edu/academics/art to download a digital portfolio template.

  5. All original two-dimensional artwork must be mounted on black or white matboard.

  6. All original art must be submitted either in a portfolio case or appropriate container which properly protects the work. It should be labeled with the following information: name, address, school, phone number, and email address.

Notification

  1. Scholarship recipients will be notified by March 24, 2014. After this date, portfolios can be picked up in the art department. Call Prof. Lindemann at 414.443.8608 to make arrangements.

  2. Portfolios that are mailed will be returned by mail only if return postage is included in the application materials.

  3. Portfolios not picked up by April 15, 2014, will be discarded.

 

Scholarship for a senior art major

The Gerald and Georgia Brommer Art Scholarship is awarded to a senior art major. The student is chosen during their junior year. Students are judged on the following criteria:

  • dedication and adherence to Christian ideals in the life of the student,

  • artistic skills in his or her chosen area of art,

  • dedication to art (fine art production, graphic design, art education and/or art history) as a vital element in the Christian life (that is, a sense of personal commitment to the field of art and a dedication to personal growth in art).
