The Marvin M. Schwan Library provides resources, services, and facilities to support the teaching, scholarship, and service of the students, faculty, and staff of Wisconsin Lutheran College in their pursuit of academic success.

The Schwan Library is located on the campus of Wisconsin Lutheran College at 630 North 89th Street between Bluemound Road and Wisconsin Avenue. Call 414.443.8864 to speak with Library staff members or fill out the Ask the Librarian form.

The Schwan Library is open to WLC students, faculty, and staff.

  • ATLA Religion Database with ATLASerials (EBSCOhost): Access to journal articles, book reviews, & collections of essays in all fields of religion with some full text.
  • Barron's: Full-text access beginning in 1988 to the present for this weekly finance newspaper.
  • BioCyc: Collection of Pathway/Genome Databases (PGDBs) plus software tools for exploring them.
  • Business Source Premier (EBSCOhost): Research database with full text provided back to 1886, and searchable cited references back to 1998.
  • Chronicle of Higher Education: Published since 1966, it is the leading source of news, information, and jobs for college and university faculty members and administrators.
  • CINAHL Plus with Full Text (EBSCOhost): Nursing and allied health research database provides full text journal coverage dating back to 1937.
  • Communication and Mass Media Complete (EBSCOhost): Incorporates CommSearch and Mass Media Articles Index with full text journal articles as well as book chapters, etc.
  • Education Database (ProQuest): Journal articles & dissertations on theory & practice of education at all levels including special education, home schooling & adult education.
  • Education Source (EBSCOhost): Bibliographic & full-text database covering scholarly research relating to all areas of education.

  • Gale in Context: Opposing Viewpoints: Information and opinions on social issues with continuously updated viewpoints, topic overviews, full-text magazines, academic journals, news articles, primary source documents, statistics, images, videos, audio files, and links to vetted websites.
  • Hein Online: HeinOnline is a premier online research platform that provides comprehensive coverage from inception of more than 2,800 law-related periodicals as well as all essential government documents, constitutions, world trials, classic treatises, and more.
  • JSTOR: Vital scholarly content in more than 50 disciplines all full text.
  • Kanopy BASE (Bundled Academic Subscription for Education): Streaming video database holding approximately 10,000 videos covering a variety of topics. This video database may have content not in keeping with the mission of Wisconsin Lutheran College. Accordingly, WLC monitors the monthly updates to Kanopy and attempts to remove offensive materials prior to campus access. Individuals are asked to contact Jenny Baker, Director of Library Services, with concerns or questions regarding a specific video title.

  • Loeb Classical Library: The written treasures of the ancient Greek and Roman world digitized, with Greek and Latin texts alongside English translations.
  • MLA International Bibliography (EBSCOhost): Modern Language Association index of journal articles, books and dissertations on language, literature, and linguistics.
  • Nexis UNI: Nexis UNI features more than 17,000 news, business, and legal sources including US Supreme Court decisions back to 1790. 
  • Oxford English Dictionary (OED): Widely regarded as the accepted authority on the English language, the OED is a guide to the meaning, history, and pronunciation of past and present words from across the English-speaking world. Updated every three months.
  • Oxford Music Online (Oxford University Press): Includes Groves dictionaries of Music & Musicians, Jazz, Opera, Women Composers, American Music, Musical Instruments, the Oxford Companion to Music, and Dictionary of Music.
  • PsycINFO with PsycARTICLES (American Psychological Association): Full text from professional journals, chapters, books, reports, theses, and dissertations. Select "Choose Databases" to add PsycTESTS.
  • PubMed (National Library of Medicine): PubMed provides access to citations from MEDLINE and additional life science journals.
  • SPORTDiscus: Full text database for sports and sports medicine research.
  • Sports Business Journal: Provides daily and weekly content, newsletters, and podcasts to keep users abreast of all that is going on in the world of sports business.
  • TeachingBooks.net: Collection of instructional materials about children's and young adult books and authors.
  • US Major Dailies (ProQuest): U.S. Major Dailies provides access to five of the country’s most respected national and regional newspapers offering researchers complete and timely coverage of local, national, and world events. Titles include Chicago Tribune, The Los Angeles Times, The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, and The Washington Post.
  • Wall Street Journal (ProQuest): Full-text to the last 20 years of the Eastern edition.
  • Web of Science (Thomson Reuters): Includes Science Citation Index and Social Sciences Citation Indexes 1899-to present.
  • Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary Digital Library: collects, preserves, and distributes digital theological materials including the WLS Essay File and the WLS World Seminary Library.
  • WLC Capstone Repository: Provides electronic access to submitted Capstone papers and projects. Only available on campus.
